Leash Training Great Dane

leash training great dane
In general, can be trusted Great Danes off leash (with appropriate training)?

Considering adopting a puppy from Danish great, but we have an unfenced (but large garden). Our current dog (a lab mix) caught borders our yard very quickly and can be trusted to air free (our only yard – which, of course, her leash in public) without being on a leash or lead. I understand that each dog is different, but in general they can be trusted off leash? Also – do they bark a lot?

Of course you can with proper training. You have to remember that the Danes are sight hounds. They will run behind things by instinct. Danes should always have a fenced yard. My Dane competes in obedience, rally and is AKC CGC. But most definitely trying to chase things. If I am not playing attention he will run after squirrels, cats, rabbits, etc. .. But, however, it will also when called and heard my commandments My Dane shells quiet often, he is very protective over me, but never hurt a fly. He is really a sissy complete, but knows that he is huge and scaring people. He is really barking now.

Big dog Great Dane, Honey, going for a walk…
